We are proud to have the only Montessori Elementary Program in the Katy area.

The Montessori elementary program is designed around the developmental needs of children in the second plane of development (6-12 years). Cosmic Education is the basis for the curriculum, which is woven around what Montessori termed "The Five Great Lessons." They are:

The Beginning- The First Great Lesson weaves a tale of the origins of the universe and our own planet. Using impressionistic charts and experiments directly related to the basic physical properties of matter, a foundation is made for the future study of physics, chemistry, astronomy and geology.

The Time Line of Life- This time line represents the beginnings of life on Earth from the simplest forms through the appearance of human beings. Each organism is presented as a contributor to a vast, ineffable cosmic scheme.

The Coming of Humans- Continuing the exploration of life on Earth, this time line stresses the development of humans from the earliest beings through the use of tools.

The History of Writing- This lesson explores the development of writing from its appearance in primitive cultures to its role in the modern society.

The History of Mathematics- This lesson explores the use of mathematics as an expression of the refinement of the human mind and as a response to individual and shared needs.

Other key aspects of the Elementary Program include:

Continued development of independence and personal responsibility through the use of individual work plans. Deep understanding of abstract concepts through the use of concrete materials. Individual and group lessons which allow students to work at their own pace, and master concepts before moving forward. An environment and culture of collaboration and cooperation. The development and cultivation of critical thinking skills rather than test taking skills. A close-knit class community in which problem solving, etiquette, citizenship and other social skills are learned within a safe and nurturing environment.
